????July 21, 2005 Public Meeting Frequently Asked Questions????

Q: What will be the approximate speed limit on Bragg Rd. Extension? It's 25 mph now, so will it be maintained?

A: We can not speak for VDOT, but that is our current understanding. They are not looking at this section becoming a major thoroughfare.

Q: With a new south entrance to the Mall, across from Waverly Dr., and with the additional traffic that will travel down Bragg Rd., no one in my neighborhood will be able to get out of the Waverly Village Development. What will be done to help us?

A: The intersection of Waverly Dr. and Bragg Rd. will possibly be signalized, but controlled in some manner, to allow residents to enter and exit upon Bragg Rd. safely. Our traffic engineers are currently evaluating the best method for controlling traffic at this location.

Q: With the improvement of Rt. 710 (a.k.a. Bragg Rd.), there will be additional traffic running in front of my home. What could be done to deter traffic from making a left onto Rt. 710 (a.k.a. Bragg Rd.) from the new Harrison Rd. Connector, and make a right instead?

A: First of all, making a right turn is much easier than making a left at the Rt. 710 /Harrison Rd. Connector intersection. I'll be honest; there will be traffic, but with a four lane widening on only the east leg of Rt. 710 this will encourage the majority of the traffic to travel this route because of the easy free flowing movement that will be created.

Q: Did you take into consideration turning lanes into and out of New Life in Christ Church from the new Harrison Rd. Connector?

A: At this time we have not looked at access for property adjacent to the Harrison Rd. Connector, but as the process continues, those types of details will be examined and discussed with the County Supervisors. We have been working very closely with the County Supervisors and church, and when this process is complete, both will be happy with the outcome.

Q: Can the Mall's Ring Rd. be used as the intersection for the Harrison Rd. Connector instead of Bragg Rd.?

A: We can not connect the Harrison Rd. Connector to the Mall's Ring Rd. This is because the Ring Rd. is a private road, and VDOT roadways must connect to another public roadway in the public road system.

Q: Out of the three alignments that were presented at the July 21, 2005 Community Meeting, which one is the preferred alignment?
A: Although an alignment has not been selected yet, Alignment 3 is the current alignment that is being evaluated. For Alignment 3, we are looking at aligning it closely to the existing Burgess Ln.. It will then curve around the east side of the pond, and continue through the Hazelwild Farm's property and intersect with Harrison Rd. at a location approximately across from Carriage Hill Ln. We believe this alignment will have the least amount of impact to the public, and we will soon be evaluating the environmental issues. (See Alignment Graphics)

Q: With regard to the adjacent property owners to the proposed Harrison Rd. Connector, what access will they be allowed?

A: The adjacent properties would have legal access to the new connector road, but their access will be based on their current use or zoning. If the property owner decides to change their use or zoning, they will have to negotiate their access with the County and State.
